Holdem Poker (otherwise Texas Holdem) has still been the most popular game of the online world. Texas holdem is divided on:
- Limit Texas Holdem (with a definite specific limit of bets in every game and on each round of betting)
- Pot Limit Texas Holdem (when the player can bet what is in the pot. Click here to learn more)
- No-Limit Texas Holdem (it’s possible to bet all at any time. Click here to learn more).
Texas Holdem Poker usually uses a dealer button to indicate the theoretical dealer of each hand. After the current hand is completed, the button moves to the next player clockwise as with standard poker rules. Now, this player is considered as “the dealer” for the current hand. As a rule, a single deck of cards is used, consisting of 52 cards excluding the jokers.
If the active pot is $200 and the first player to act in the round bets $150 and the next player calls $150, the third player has a maximum eligible total bet of $800. The $800 total is made up of the $150 call and $650 raise.
The $650 max raise portion is equal to the pot of $200 + first player’s $150 + second player’s $150 + his own call of $150.
Rules to Play Holdem Poker
Texas Holdem is the most popular version of poker. It requires skills, patience and courage. It is played with a typical 52-card deck. The aim of each Holdem player is to make the best possible five-card combination using both hole cards and community cards. Thus Holdem is called the board game.
To enter the game each player should make a bet. The person who bets first is called the Small Blind. He is always the first person to the left of the dealer. The player sitting second to the left of the dealer is called the Big blind. He should make a bet twice bigger than the Small Blind’s one. As the dealer is chosen by the button, which moves around the table clockwise, there is a new dealer, the Big Blind and the Small Blind each game.
After the first betting round each player receives two cards, which can be seen only to a person who gets them. These are called hole cards. Then goes another betting round and the flop comes. The flop is three cards, which can be seen and used by everyone at the table. There is a betting round and two more cards come with a betting round after each opening. These two cards are called the Turn and the River.
After the last betting round, there is a showdown. That means that each player shows his cards and the best hand is defined.
Each player has an option of folding at any stage of the game. That means that he can pass his hand to the dealer and quit the game, all his bets remaining in the pot.
If a bet has not been called a player has an option of checking that is calling a zero bet. He pays nothing but remains in the game.
Each player has an option of raising in case he has enough chips. To raise means to make a bet which is bigger than the previous one. There can be no more than three raises during each betting round.
We can distinguish three variants of Texas Holdem according to the raising limits.
In Limit, Holdem players are allowed to raise up to a specific limit. Those who play Pot Limit Holdem can raise up to the amount of the pot. In No-Limit Hold’em players can raise up to any amount, the only limit being the number of the chips they have in front of them. In No-Limit there is an option of All-In, which means that a player puts all his chips into the pot.
